Creating a Template

Click here for the Flash Tutorial on creating Templates.  A high-speed Internet connection is recommended for this 3-minute tutorial (the 1.3 MB animation may take up to 1 minute to load).  All Finasia Tutorials are best viewed in Full Screen (F11 shortcut in IE) and 1024 X 768 resolution.  Click here if your browser does not have the Macromedia Flash Player plug-in.

A Finasia Template is defined as a selection of data points and criteria that constitute the basis of multiple company analyses, also called an analytical model.  This function may be used in both the SCREENING  and all the ANALYSIS functions.  To begin creating a template, you must open the appropriate sheet (e.g. Analysis - Financial Statement) and then select the data items which you wish to include in the template (either by right-clicking and selecting "DataItem" or by selecting "DataItem" from the Menu Bar).

You may create a template with filters and settings applied upon any number of the millions of data points contained in the Finasia database.  The Template functions will also refresh its content every time you open it according to the settings in your Template definition.

e.g.  if your Template contains a description of the “Last Available” Financial Statement for a given company, the content of the template will be updated with the most recent Financial Statement that is added to the Finasia database for this company every time the Template is opened.

Just as in creating a new universe, you should save your Template as soon as you have finished defining it.  To do so, simply select <Save Template> under <Template> on the Menu toolbar.  You may also edit the Template at any time.

The Template creates a series of definitions to describe the desired components of a financial study such that it may be used across any universe of companies.  To apply an existing Template to a different universe, you must first open or create the universe, then open the saved Template.

It should be noted that each WorkSheet template is saved under a different format and should be saved in the /Finasia/Template folder.

A number of sample templates are included in your installation in the Template folder.  To customize any of the templates, you simply need to rename them after editing (<Template>,<Edit Template>).

    -  Screening Template: screening.stmpl is a sample of the screening WorkSheet and includes several countries and exchanges.  Only those countries to which you are subscribed will appear.  This sample demonstrates the ease with which you can analyse companies across a variety of countries and currencies.

    -  Financial Template:  Basic_CS.fstp represents a basic financial statement composed of 75 data items from the last available Consolidated (CS) Financial Statement; Basic_NC.fstp is composed of the same items from the Non-Consolidated (NC) Financial Statements.  In contrast, the Short_CS and Short_NC templates represent abbreviated Financial Statements, Consolidated and Non-Consolidated respectively.

    -  Stocks TemplateStocks.sptp represents a time series of stock prices from January 1, 2002 to September 30, 2002.
