Creating
a Universe
Click here for the Flash Tutorial on creating a new Universe. A high-speed Internet connection is recommended for this 3-minute tutorial (the 858 KB animation may take up to 1 minute to load). All Finasia Tutorials are best viewed in Full Screen (F11 shortcut in IE) and 1024 X 768 resolution. Click here if your browser does not have the Macromedia Flash Player plug-in. If you are working on an existing and previously-saved Universe, simply
use the <Open Universe> option.
e.g.
Create a Universe composed of HKSE-listed
companies with a market capitalization greater than US$ 250 million, and Net
Sales greater than HK$ 800 million.
When creating a New Universe using the <Company Register> option, you must first identify the Stock Exchange on which the Stock is traded, then select the company. You may sort the list of companies by Company Name or by Ticker Code by clicking on the title cells of the grid in the List Box. Immediately after creating a
New Universe, you should save the universe description by using
the <Save Universe> option under <Universe> on the Menu toolbar.
You may subsequently edit the universe at any time.
If you do not save your new Universe, you will be prompted to do so
before proceeding to any of the ANALYSIS functions. To access a saved universe, simply select the <Open Universe> option from the <Universe> Menu. It is important to note that the Universe content will be refreshed every time it is opened. If a new company is listed on an exchange and conforms to your criteria, it will be added to the Universe automatically. A number of sample Universes are included in your installation in the Template folder. To customize any of the templates, you simply need to rename them after editing (<Universe>,<Edit Universe>).- Red_Chips.uni represents the suggested universe of HK-listed companies controlled by PRC interests. SInce there is no :universally-accepted standard defining this universe, it is recommended that you edit the universe to suit your analytical needs. - China_B.uni represents all the "B" shares listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges as of November 2002. - China_H.uni represents all the PRC-controlled companies with shares listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange ("H" class shares) as of November 2002. - Screening.uni is a sample screening universe. |
