When I open Finasia, all I see is a blank Excel sheet. Then what do I do?

The first step is to create the universe of companies you wish to analyze, anywhere between one and 7,000. After this, you can start your analysis by creating the Screening or Analysis template that you need.  Return to top

How do I select the companies I need?

You can select them by exchange, name, ticker coder, sector, financial results.  Select <Universe> from the menu bar at the top of your screen, then select <New Universe>.  You can then choose to select the universe of companies one company at a time, by sector, or by applying multiple filters.  Return to top

What is the "Template" function...

The Template is the spreadsheet format that you use for your analysis or screening.  To create a new Screening Template, start building it from the Screening sheet by selecting <Add/Edit Data>.  All items selected will be built into this template.  If you want to perform company analysis, select the company by positioning your cursor on the appropriate row in screening and right-click to select one of hte analytical datasets (Financial Statements, Stock Prices, or Company Data). You should save your templates for future use.  Return to top

What do the account names mean...

The full list of account names and their definitions can be found at www.finasia.biz/en/FinasiaGuide/appendix9.htm  Return to top

What are the formulas used in Finasia...

The full list of formulas and ratios can be found at www.finasia.biz/en/FinasiaGuide/appendix7.htm  Return to top

When I use Multiple Filters, I can't select ratios...

The Multiple Filters function allows you to narrow your universe by exchange, sector, and any financial statement item. To filter results using any other data item, use the <Filter> function from the Menu bar at the top of your screen.  Return to top

What sector classification do you use...

To ensure consistency and reliability, we have created our own sector classification, based on revenues rather than a company's reported sector.  The full breakdown of sectors can be found at www.finasia.biz/en/FinasiaGuide/appendix2.htm  Return to top

How frequently do you update the data...

We update all information daily and post it to our servers as soon as it is entered and screened.  Return to top

Are the financials standardized...

There are 3 levels of standardization:  a) the top 50 Financial Statement items are mapped across all countries to facilitate comparisons; b) within each country, FS formats are divided into <Industrial> and <Financial> formats; c) within each country, identical items are given the same account name and code (e.g. "Total Sales" and "Total Revenues" are the same item and will be standardized into a single account).  Return to top

What is the "*" in <consol*>...

The asterisk (*) is usd to denote the selection of the option <if no data is available for this type, use alternate type>.  i.e. if you select this option after choosing <Consolidated Statements> and the company only reports <Non-consolidated Statements>, the latter will be shown in your dataset.  Return to top

How do I get Market Cap...

Because Market Capitalization is based on the stock price, we include it in the <Stock Price> dataset.  Simply select <Add/Edit Data>, <Stock Price>, <Market Cap>.  Return to top

What is "Volume" and "Amount" in Stock Prices...

"Volume" denotes the actual number of shares traded whereas the "Amount" represents the value of the shares transacted in the selected currency.  Return to top

How is "Screening" different from "Analysis"...

The <Screening> function is used to compare multiple companies against each other, using any items form the various datasets; the <Analysis> function is used for analyzing a single company at a time.  Return to top
